Tottenham are battling Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool for the signing of RB Salzburg hot-shot Benjamin Sesko.
What’s the story?
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a real breakthrough campaign in Austria this season, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in 28 games across all competitions.
Now, in doing their NXGN 2022 list which ranks the top 50 wonderkids across the world, GOAL have claimed that Sesko is being closely monitored by Antonio Conte’s side, while the likes of Manchester City, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have also shown previous interest in him.
A mix of Haaland and Mbappe
Standing at an imposing 6 foot 4, Sesko has an incredible mix of pace, power and strength, and it’s no surprise that he’s been compared to Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland – something the teenager himself has previously spoken about.
He said: “My team-mates tell me that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even tell me that I’m better than him!”
A player profile done by GOAL revealed: “The 18-year-old has already reached double figures for direct goal involvements in his debut season with the Salzburg first team, while he has also found the net for Slovenia, for whom he is the country’s youngest-ever player.
“Sesko is able to match his height and power with supreme pace, with his top speed of 36.1km/h pretty much matching that of Kylian Mbappe. Where Sesko stands out from other young No.9s is his willingness to drop into midfield and help start attacks, rather than solely finishing them off.”
The £7.2m-rated star ranked as the ninth-best player by GOAL out of those who were born on or after January 1st 2003 in their NXGN 2022 edition, and it speaks volumes of the kind of waves he’s already been making in his fledgling career.
With his explosive pace and burgeoning ability to finish, Sesko really does look like one for the future for Spurs, and could become the kind of mouth-watering prospect that takes the Premier League by storm in the years to come.
Conte will be buzzing with the links to Sesko.
